1973 a 1979: Rock Progresivo vs Punk

Durante el transcurso de los setenta, se dieron una serie hechos importantes. En primer lugar, el surgimiento de una nueva oleada de grupos como AC/DC y Aerosmith que pregonaban el hardrock de los años previos, a partir de la influencia de importantes bandas como los Stones, Zeppelin, Purple, entre otros.

El rock también evolucionaría en su forma más artística y progresiva a partir del impulso de grupos como Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis e incluso Queen, que encontraron su máxima expresión en esta década.

Paralelamente, a modo de respuesta al rock progresivo, un estilo más rebelde y anarquista iniciaría a mediados de los 70. El punk nace a finales de los sesenta en Estados Unidos con grupos como Iggy Pop & The Stooges y los New York Dolls que luego continuarían The Ramones desde norteamárica y The Sex Pistols y The Clash desde Gran Bretaña.

La revolución punk además sería acompañada por el origen del New Wave y el Post Punk a fines de los setenta.
