1966 a 1968: Años psicodélicos

Durante este período, tanto en Inglaterra, con grupos como Los Zombies y los mismos Beatles y Rolling Stones, como en Estados Unidos, con la aparición de los Doors, Frank Zappa y Jimi Hendrix, la psicodelia se apoderaría de la escena transformandose en la moda del momento.

Paralelamente, en Norteamérica Bob Dylan acentuaría la etapa de electrificación de su sonido. Mientras de la mano de Lou Reed y la tutela de Andy Warhol surgiría  The Velvet Underground irrumpiendo en forma revolucionaria y adelantada con sus letras crudas y su sonido experimental solo comparable con la psicodelia que Syd Barrett como capataz en la primera etapa de Pink Floyd lograron en aquellos años.

Sería uno los períodos más proliferos, donde en solo 3 años se lanzarían muchos de los discos más importantes de la historia del rock.
